The outrageous paint scheme on Bryan Pence's '98 Honda Civic was no accident; it was well thought out, with the intention of making a visual image amongst the Euro freaks in Dayton, Ohio. Seeing all of the other rides around town, Bryan didn't want his Civic, "Graphic Violence," looking like every other Joe on the street.
The plan was to do up the Civic by removing the hood nozzles, shaving the antenna and door handles, and removing the gas tank door. Bryan and the Graphic Shack of Beaver Creek, Ohio, did all of this body work and even rerouted the gas tank filling hose through a different location. Steve Ward and Rodney Blankenship proceeded to apply a PPG orange base, before Steve went hog wild on those crazy graphics. Swipes, scallops and shards of color--blues, greens, reds and yellows--cascade atop a gray field of airbrushed matter, done over a period of three months. The combo creates a great contrast to the orange base and body mods found on the two-door marvel.
Bryan altered the suspension by installing Sprint 21/2-inch lowering springs. To help in them tight corners, Bryan connected a DC Sports strut tower tie bar for better rigidity. The engine dress-up was done by Johnny Mack Motorsports (Dayton), who dropped in STR caps, Honda Sport caps and steel-braided hoses and chrome work done by Blakely's in Dayton. Johnny also introduced a little more power to the 1.6-liter engine by using 8mm sparkplug wires, DAC intake, DC Sports header and the kicker, a 100-shot nitrous oxide system. A Nakayama exhaust rounds out the package. Whoa.
The interior of the ride wasn't safe either. Bryan removed the passenger-side air bag and installed AutoMeter digital gauges, which monitor the transmission temperature, air/fuel ratio and oil temperature. The tachometer located on the driver's side front pillar tell the rest of the story. The stock seats were ditched for a pair of Momo Bracket seats, as were the pedals, steering wheel and shifter knob. The dash cluster was also modified by painting the inner dash shroud, while a stainless steel faceplate dresses up the stock gauge cluster.
Bryan installed the sound system/entertainment center himself by using an Eclipse 7002 1-DIN AV system that features a 5.8-inch TV screen. A Sony DVD unit is also part of the system that plays the flicks through MB Quart 1-inch tweets, 51/2-inch mids and three 12-inch Kicker solobaric subs. An MB Quart crossover and Sony X-Plode 200 amplifier handle the traffic between the source and the separates. Graphic Violence rolls on 18-inch TSW Trophy alloys shod in Toyo high-performance radials. If you look closely through the wheel spokes, you can see a set of Power Stop cross-drilled brake rotors for extra stopping capability.
Bryan's rad ride can certainly put a hurt on anyone in its class, especially when they don't have half as much as homeboy's Civic. We hear that the Civic has been leaving a trail of victims in his wake. We're talking car show victims, mind you.
